BIOGRAPHY
Candace Jarvis, originally from Ontario, is a professional dancer based in New York City. She graduated as a Certificate Student from The Ailey School in 2015, and since has gone on to perform within multiple artistic communities.
Candace has been dancing with Nai Ni Chen Dance Company for five years, touring throughout the U.S. and internationally. As a member of the company, she has performed with popular music group Ahn Trio and with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. As a featured dancer, she received accolades in the Broad Street Review for a duet entitled Positioning. She was the assistant teaching artist for the Hunter College Dance Program in 2019. She also worked as a teaching artist for three years at A Harry Moore School for Special Education as a part of a residency with Nai Ni Chen. Here Candace has worked with special education students ages 5-19.
Additional company experience includes performing under the direction of choreographers such as Amy Hall, Anthony Rodriguez, Tracy Inman, Carlos Dos Santos, Norbert De La Cruz III, Quilan Arnold and Emily Greenwell. Candace performed in Alvin Ailey’s Revelations Cast of 50 at New Jersey Performing Arts Center and took part in Robert Battle's New Directions Choreographers Lab at The Ailey School. She performed as a featured guest artist in Exit Like An Animal for KEIGWIN + COMPANY’s 2015 Joyce Season. Candace is a former member of Awaken Dance Theater—directed by Rebekka Nodhturft. She made an appearance in The Dance Magazine with the Ailey School as a featured alumnus.
A tribute to her diversity in movement, Candace has been in the underground ballroom scene for three years. She has danced in events featuring artists such as Mary J Blige, Ciara, Chaka Khan, Billy Porter, TRINA, Marc Jacobs, and Todrick Hall. Candace has also been hired as a performer for brands Moose Knuckles Canada, Barefoot Wine, and Melissa Shoe Company. She was a performer for the opening night of FX’s POSE season 2 event, and featured on BET’s social series “Queer as F**k!”
